As a Scientist I have always had a questioning nature. I have worked the biggest part of my careers in Business Development as a Manager. This requires a commitment to obtaining bottom line viability and durability in product development decisions. I do not shy away from asking tough questions and getting answers to those questions – it’s a fiduciary responsibility. Answers from this current administration, unfortunately, are very hard to come by – and they shouldn’t be. If elected Mayor, I will change that. There will be an open exchange and dialogue with principled discussion and transparent governance in both languages.
I will ensure that the Township is fiscally viable and any exceptional decisions taken are done so with input from the taxpayer. Its your money and it should be managed properly with representation.
I understand and I am sympathetic to, the necessity to create job opportunities in order to promote a healthy economy, which will sustain the future of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge. We need to provide options for families - so they don't have to travel too far away to seek employment simply because there are no other alternatives.
I believe in a collective, balanced and consultative approach. This means no teams, no secret meetings, no pet projects. Your opinions are welcomed as they help challenge the status quo and help us build a better future for all. I will endeavour, with the help of the community and council, to bring better prospects to Grenville-sur-la-Rouge.
Shelley Silcock
I am English by birth and I have lived in Quebec for 18 years with 11 of these years in Grenville/Grenville-sur-la-Rouge.
I studied Biological Sciences at University and I hold a Masters Degree with a specialism in Entomology (study of insects). Yes I know, creepy for some! I trained as a teacher of High School Sciences before moving to Canada, where I transitioned into Business Development applications. Working in the pharmaceutical space, I was able to utilise my science training. My responsibilities included starting up Business units and taking them from the ground up to financial viability and sustainability. As such planning, strategy, action and optimisation being some of my key strengths.
I am a keen advocate of education and life long learning. I believe that setting a good example to our children is key, however cliché this may appear. We are role models to them - so standing for what we believe in is important, and paramount. It speaks to character that leads to integrity and to me this defines leadership.
I speak English and French, and to a lesser extent German and some Spanish and Italian. I may not speak French like a native speaker and my kids say that I have a funny accent in French, but some have commented that it's pretty good.
In my spare time you will find me either in the garden, undertaking a woodworking project, or drawing, I really like to work with my hands.

About me
Q - Why stand?
A - Very good question. I've attended a number of the council meetings now and each time I go, I leave with a certain level of frustration and I know I am not the only person who feels this way. However, I realize that if I want to try and effect change I have to be in a position to do that, hence my running for Mayor. Its not about ego, or self interest. My motivation for standing is to re-establish a clear governance framework that is both transparent and empowering to people so that everyone is heard, every opinion counted and no person left disenfranchised and without representation from their community of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge. To this end, consensus will be established through consultation, agreement and action.
Q - Do you speak French? Will meetings be in French or English?
A - Yes I speak French. I believe that meetings should be conducted in both languages. We only accomplish greatness through a united sense of purpose - not through segregation. Engaging everyone in the community will enable us to reach better decisions and sustainable outcomes. Everyone pays taxes, everyone has the right to be heard, regardless of language distinction.
Q - Why not be part of a team?
A - I believe in a true democratic process. Individual representation ensures singularity of opinion - no alliances or collusion or subverting a segment of the community’s concerns. It's true that there will be challenges and disagreements, but varied opinions in my experience always result in better solutions – solutions that are necessary to support the diverse and vast community that we are.
Q- But you are a woman, we've never had a female Mayor in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge?
A - This is absolutely true. But it does not mean that a woman cannot be as effective, efficient or productive as a man. I ask that you base your decision about who best represents your interests in the community. Base it not on gender but on the qualities and the abilities that the individual can bring to the community to improve the lives and circumstances of the residents of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge.
